Tournament results

We decided to head up to Grills...for the Awards Ceremony from the two fishing tournaments held yesterday. The SISA tournament had been postponed because of bad weather...so they combined the two tournaments yesterday. Anglers could weigh their fish at both spots.
As I mentioned...Mike Roy and his boat won 2nd Place Kingfish. They got $700.00 at the first tournament and today they collected another $250.00 plus a rod and reel and some Costa Del Mar sunglasses. Al won 2nd Place in the Dolphin category yesterday...the same fish came in 3rd in the Shootout tournament. As the t-shirt says...it was a North vs South shootout. You could fish from Port Canaveral or Sebastian Inlet. A group from the port had the winning dolphin....so Al was bumped down to 3rd Place. The No vs So contest was also a fundraiser for the Space Coast Early Intervention Center...they raised about $22,0000, between entry fees, t-shirt sales and a boat raffle. The winner of the new boat was a woman who just happened to be at the restaurant eating lunch. She bought a $40.00 ticket and an hour later had a new 22 ft boat! Not bad!
The only bad thing about the get together was the swarms of lovebugs...it made the deck at Grills look sort of like the set of a horror movie. There were swarms of the bugs on all the windows and they were all over the tables and chairs..and consequently all over everbody's clothes (those white shorts with smashed bugs...yuck!), hair, etc. At least they don't bite!
I almost forgot! The South won!(handily) They will have a trophy on display at the Sebastian Marina for the year....and next year they will shoot it out again.

SISA Tournament

John was not in the fishing tournament today...but he wanted to go down and see what was happening at the weigh-in. Plus we had a $50.00 gift card from Captain Hiram's...so we could get a bite to eat in the process.
Things were winding down when we arrived...but we noticed our friend Mike's boat on the board - DEAMBRICO with the 2nd place King fish.
We also saw Al (Longdogger's Al) from the Johnny H20 with the 3rd place dolphin....eventually he was bumped up to 2nd when the 2nd place winners were disqualified for not weighing in on time.
They told us they got caught in a terrible storm while offshore...50 mile an hour wind gusts...pouring rain and LOTS of lightning. NO THANKS! I guess it didn't seem so bad when they realized they had won some $$$$$!
Meanwhile Ron & Ben were still out on the water getting towed in by Boat Tow-USA...and the Coast Guard. They had engine trouble, got caught in the same storms AND lost a couple of fish! Needless to say...they did not have a good day! Oh well.....some day it will all make a good fish story.
Courtney was smiling because not only did they place 2nd in the SISA tournament...the same fish got second in the Strike Zone tournamnet going on up the river a bit. (SISA was postponed from two weeks earlier...decided participants could enter both on the same day...so the king fish won 2nd place (we think) in both tournaments! Not bad. Courtney was also smiling because they also won their bet with Al...for biggest fish. (They beat him last year too) and last but not least...she was smiling because we offered her a ride home (in the car) with us...so she wouldn't have to go by boat through more storms still in the area. :)

Chunk-a-Change Dolphin / Wahoo Tournament

2nd place - $4000.00
3rd place- $1050.00

familiar names among the sponsors
Queen snapper

Check out that BLUE water!

This past Saturday was the 4th annual Corey's Bagel's Chunk-a-Change tournament. John fished with Mitch and Josh Y........unfortunately they didn't catch any prize winning fish. They caught some grouper and snapper and they did manage to avoid the lightning and thunderstorms that rolled in right around the time of the official weigh-in. Word has it that our friend Mike Roy came in 3rd.....he won about $1050.00 with the 12 lb dolphin they caught. Glad to hear it! Things were pretty quiet out on the water...but all it took was one good one to win it all..... The winners got $9000.00 for their 42 lb wahoo. Not bad for a day of fishing.
